Animation, film, ideas and things we're making.
News, stories and work from THIS IS RED, an animation studio and film production company.
One Building, a Dozen Looks
Inside a 20,000-square-foot former church, THIS IS RED offers artists, photographers and brands the ability to create an entire library of content under one roof. From music videos and photography to interviews, animation and social content, the space can transform dramatically between setups. Productions with Mark Seliger, Eric Ryan Anderson, Stick Men, Ghost Hounds, Neural DSP, Gibson and the BBC demonstrate how one building can deliver radically different creative worlds without changing locations. Here
A Century of Reinvention
A century after opening as St. Michael’s Church, a Pittsburgh-area landmark has found new life as the home of THIS IS RED. The 20,000-square-foot former church has been transformed into a global creative hub for film, photography, animation, music, immersive audio and storytelling. By preserving its extraordinary architecture while introducing modern production technology, THIS IS RED demonstrates how historic spaces can be reinvented—not simply as monuments to the past, but as engines for creativity. It All Begins Here
Inside the Making of Neural DSP’s Animated Worlds
THIS IS RED and director Jeff O’Brien Myers have helped Neural DSP transform music technology into animated worlds. From Amp Armory and Cortex Control to Mantra and Neural Capture 2, each project combines storytelling, character design, 2D and 3D animation, motion design, visual effects and sound to turn products into experiences. Go behind the scenes of an ongoing creative collaboration built around music, filmmaking and the belief that technology should feel like something.
Inside the Room: Recording Immersive Audio with DPA & Dolby Atmos
Inside THIS IS RED’s collaboration with DPA Microphones, musicians were recorded throughout our 100-year-old Pittsburgh cathedral to explore how microphone placement, natural acoustics and immersive audio can make architecture part of a performance. The sessions reveal how distance, reflections and room sound can transform a recording into a sense of actually being there.
No Single Medium
Jeff Myers has built a career without creative boundaries. For more than two decades, the director, animator, artist, musician and founder of THIS IS RED has moved fluidly between film, fine art, music, technology and advertising. His work spans global brands, Grammy-winning albums, presidential inaugurations and original storytelling. From a century-old Pittsburgh church transformed into a creative headquarters, Myers continues to explore what happens when disciplines collide and the idea, not the medium, leads.s Here
Where Sound Becomes Visible
At Philharmonie Luxembourg, Dolby, Mercedes-Benz, and the Luxembourg Philharmonic unite in an immersive experience where orchestral music is transformed through Dolby Atmos and extended by THIS IS RED’s animated visual worlds. Classical compositions become spatial environments, blending sound, image, and architecture. The installation bridges concert hall and car, demonstrating how immersive audio and storytelling technologies can place audiences inside music rather than in front of it.It All Begins Here
